First Grade Team: Ms. Foster, Mrs. Morneault, & Mrs. Levesque

My name is Susan Morneault and I am excited to begin my 35th year of teaching in South Portland. Prior to coming to Dyer eight years ago, I taught at Small and Kaler Schools. I have taught grades K, 1, and 2, as well as different multiage primary combinations. I graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 1975 and received my Masters in Literacy in 1981.
I live in Gorham with my husband, Steve, who is the Technology Integrator and math teacher at Memorial Middle School. Our daughter, Bethany, begins her third year of teaching special education students in Everett, Massachusetts.
In addition to teaching and serving on the enrichment committee at Dyer, my family loves to travel. We enjoy cruising to warm places and learning about new countries. We also enjoy most sports, craft shows, reading and volunteering. I am a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international association of women educators, and am serving as our chapter’s vice president. Our altruistic projects keep me busy. During the summer, I work for South Portland’s Special Education Department in the Extended Year Program. It’s a lot of fun.
I am very excited about this school year. In addition to my teaching partner of the past years, I am pleased to welcome Vanessa Levesque to the first grade team. We have great class sizes and are delighted to be working together.

Hello! My name is Sara Foster and I’m delighted to be teaching First Grade at Dyer School. I’m originally from Fargo, North Dakota, the oldest daughter of two educators. My father was a professor at North Dakota State University and my mother taught kindergarten until I was born. Many of my cousins are also teachers, so educating runs in my family!
I graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1985 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a minor in Music. Prior to teaching the last 18 years in South Portland I taught in Grosse Ile, Michigan and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, Texas. I’ve taught Pre-K, K, 1, and 2, in addition to teaching multi-age 1/2 for many years.
Living in Maine had been a dream of mine since visiting New England with my family during a long road trip the summer of 1979. I reside in Portland with my 3 year old dog Annie, and 16 year old cats Jim and Jenny. I enjoy bike riding, walking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, snowshoeing, and many other outdoor activities. Reading and playing games are other activities I love.
During the summer I am the Assistant Director at Camp Bishopswood, a resident summer camp 5 miles inland from Camden. I just completed my 21st summer on the staff, and was delighted to have 5 Dyer students attend for a week each! Camp informs my teaching and my years of experience as an educator help me in my work at camp. I have an affinity for symbiotic relationships!
I’m looking forward to a wonderful year in First Grade working with eager and enthusiastic students and their families. I’m pleased to be working with colleagues Sue Morneault and Vanessa Levesque: Together Everyone Achieves More!
