Dyer Elementary School - Our Artists

2007-2008

News From The Art Room

We are so lucky to have a student teacher from USM with us until the end of November! Her name is Stacey Kardash. Mrs. Kardash has come up with several fun new projects including multi-step flower pictures in Kindergarten, flip books in first grade and an accordion book making project in Grade Two. Third graders have been hard at work printing their self portraits in complementary colors. They have been inspired by Pop artist Any Warhol’s colorful art. 4th graders have been learning about the stained glass artist Louis Comfort Tiffany. They will be painting pictures on vellum (a transparent paper) to create a beautiful stained glass effect. The 5th graders have been working on paintings inspired by their dreams and the art of Marc Chagall. When they are done, they will create a poem based on their dream painting. Several students have already written some extraordinary poems. Check our hallway display!

About our Art Teacher

My name is Amy Odom and I am the art teacher for both Dyer Elementary and Kaler Elementary. I have been teaching art here in South Portland since the fall of 2000. Before that I recieved a BA in fine art from St. Mary's College of Maryland and a BS in art education from Towson University in Maryland. I am beginning my Masters in "Curriculum and Instruction: Integrating the Arts" at Lesley University this spring.

When I am not in school I enjoy reading, gardening, crocheting, hiking, and skiing. I am very happy to be back at Dyer where I can continue to watch and help my students mature into fantastic artists and individuals!
